COMPANY:
HUAWEI
BUSINESS CASE:
There are 32 million deaf children in the world. Many struggle to learn how to read, because they can’t match words with sounds. They can’t hear their mother or father read them a bedtime story. Or their teacher read words from a textbook. Plus, sign language is very different to spoken and written language. So where do they even start?
Using the power of AI, Huawei has created StorySign, a free app that helps open the world of books to deaf children. Created with experts and charities from the deaf community to ensure it is a genuinely useful tool, the app features a friendly avatar, Star, who guides children and parents through classic children’s books, to give them the gift of reading together.
OBJECTIVES:
Raise awareness of the issue of deaf literacy to a wider audience, create empathy and understanding of the challenges faced by deaf children and their families. Demonstrate how technology can help solve this problem – inspiring organizations and people to get involved.
SOLUTION:
In other to support this campaign across Europe, I have created a pack of webpages (and templates) under the concept “Christmas Accessible to All“ where visitors could understand the reality of million of deaf children, perceive technology as a friendly ally and support institutions such as British Deaf Association and European Union of the Deaf with online donations.
